EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING PROCEDURES

Most weather changes occur at night or in the early morning and almost all decisions

regarding the possible closing of school must be made in the early morning.  The

Bedford Area School District covers over 300 square miles.  The weather can be

terrible in one part of the District, but acceptable in another.  Road conditions can

vary considerably.  PennDot has established a priority system for clearing roads,

which means that main roads will be cleared before secondary roads.

 

Please get in the habit of turning on your local radio

and television stations every morning as soon as possible!

 

When a decision is made about school closing, that information

will immediately be phoned to these radio and television stations:

TWO-HOUR DELAYS & EARLY DISMISSALS

To avoid missing school for the full day, we may use a two-hour delay.  To do this we announce that all buses will run their route two-hours later than normal.  Also, if the weather turns bad during the school day we may decide that an early dismissal may be necessary.  Remember to stay tuned to your radio or TV.

WHEN SCHOOL IS CLOSED FOR BAD WEATHER, ALL SCHOOL

EVENTS HELD IN THE BEDFORD AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT ARE

AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED.

If we have school when the roads in your area are bad, the bus driver may use his/her discretion regarding the running of the bus route or sections of the route. When this occurs, the student(s) who were missed will be considered legally absent for that day when she/he presents a note from the parent.
